Volusia County Government’s Pat Kuehn

to lead Volusia chapter of the FPRA

 

FPRA Board 07-08At the Volusia/Flagler (then Volusia County) Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association (FPRA) luncheon on Aug. 14, the 2007-08 officers were sworn in, marking the start of a new program year for the chapter.

 

The luncheon was held at a special location, the Atlantic Center for the Arts in New Smyrna Beach.

 

Pat Kuehn, APR, community information specialist with Volusia County Government, began her term Sept. 1 as president of the chapter. She joins the following members:

  • Melissa Sheets, president-elect, special project coordinator with Flagler County

  • Joe Radcliffe, APR, immediate past president, president of Radcliffe Communications

  • Pam Hamlin, vice president of membership, public affairs director for American Red Cross

  • Chantel Roy, vice president of finance, event planner for Tavern & Chapel in the Gardens

  • Cindi Brownfield, vice president of programs, associate director of communications for Stetson University

  • Debi McNabb, APR, vice president of accreditation and certification, administrative director of marketing and public relations for Florida Hospital Fish Memorial

  • Sharon Warriner, vice president of public relations, communications manager for the Center for Business Excellence

  • Mary Dorn, APR, vice president of web services, public relations consultant

  • Vickie Pleus, APR, vice president of chapter communications, community information specialist with Volusia County Government

  • Anastasia Shaw, student chapter liaison and historian, public relations consultant with Crescent Star Rising Consultants

  • Karen Chrapek, secretary, director of donor relations with Neighbor to Family

Statewide FPRA president-elect Suzanne Sparling, APR, installed the 2007-08 fiscal year officers and led a brainstorming session to gain member input for the chapter’s future goals. Coordinating technology with communications is a direction the state FPRA office and many other chapters are taking.

“As professionals, we really need to be a lot more technically savvy,” said Sparling, vice president of investor relations at United Way of Brevard County. She said the state offers web logs and webcast regional development seminars which allow participants to stay in their offices.

 

In the past year, the Volusia County Chapter board has expanded its electronic newsletter and website, www.fpravolusia.com, while its membership has grown to 54 members.

 

Kuehn said she looks forward to a productive, exciting year for the Volusia County Chapter.

 

“The board plans to kick it up a notch and offer more professional development opportunities and community service projects,” Kuehn said.

 

FPRA is a professional organization dedicated to developing public relations practitioners who utilize ethical practices to enhance the public relations profession.
