FPRA's November meeting: 'Emphasize good employee communication'
PORT
ORANGE – More than 40 members and guests attended the Nov. 12 meeting of the Volusia/Flagler Chapter of the Florida Public Relations AssociatioRon Hess of Motiv8 speaks to Volusia/Flagler FPRA.n on the campus of Palmer College of Chiropractic.

Ron Hess of Motiv8 Communications in Port Orange was the featured speaker. Hess’ presentation focused on the 10 employee communication traits of high performing organizations which included guidelines on communicating with employees in difficult economic times.

“A lot of businesses drive organizational excellence to improve and distinguish themselves financially and with customers. But a recent study by international consulting firm Randstad and Harris Interactive showed only 32 percent of employees believe their own company has the ability to achieve organizational excellence, rating poor communication as the lead cause for failure," said Hess.

When it comes to communicating with employees during difficult times, Hess stressed several key points: Do more communicating, not less. Managers need to interact more frequently with employees. Deal with reality; it will improve trust and credibility. Use the crisis as an opportunity. You’ll have the ear of employees. Be a good listener. And finally, focus on outcome. Help employees by clearly defining results and what they can do to help. Remember that distracted and ill-informed employees are unproductive and unhappy employees. For more information or assistance contact Ron Hess at (386) 322-9082 or e-mail: motiv8comm@aol.com.

Following an outstanding lunch prepared by the Palmer College food service staff, a few guests and members took part in a tour of the campus. “The idea of maintaining a chiropractic clinic that serves the community is a wonderful resource for us all,” said one attendee.

The November meeting was coordinated by Palmer’s Ted Nikolla, Communications Specialist, in the Marketing and Public Relations Department. Nikolla is also Vice-President of Public Relations for the chapter.
