Spring/Summer 2008 Public Relations Internship

Deatrick Public Relations, a full-service marketing communications company, is seeking a part-time intern to support hospitality, golf and nonprofit clients.

WHO:
DPR, is a full-service marketing communications company servicing the hospitality, golf and leisure service industries.

WHAT:
Interns will support public relations specialist in areas to include administrative support such as working with press clips and creating and updating media lists, to more challenging tasks such as pitching media, writing press releases and assisting with special events.

WHEN:
Part-time spring and summer internships are available. Interns will be required to work a minimum of 12-15 hours per week.

WHERE:
DPR, Maitland, Fla.

DPR will provide a $100 per month stipend to cover food and gas expenses. Beyond this, an intern will receive exposure to the daily life of a public relations executive and real-world, hands-on experience.

Interns should be self-motivated and looking for an opportunity to learn and grow.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
• Must have a valid Florida driver’s license and a clean driving record.
• Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in public relations, journalism or a related field.
• Must be able to travel and work some weekend hours on occasion.
• Must have strong attention to detail.
• Must have solid writing skills and knowledge of AP writing style.
• Must have knowledge of the media.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Generate positive publicity for SeaWorld Orlando, Discovery Cove, and Aquatica, assisting with publicity efforts for Busch Gardens Tampa and Adventure Island as needed.
• Coordinate media familiarization tours, stunts and events.
• Escort/host visiting media.
• Respond to media leads.
• Pitch and service the media.
• Write copy for press materials, internal communications and guest responses.
• Research Bacon’s Media Source and local media archives when needed.

Special Events/Communications Intern

Duties:
Writing and distributing media alerts, press releases and sponsorship proposals for fundraising events.

* Working on all aspects of event coordination, logistical planning and execution.
* Event marketing – generating and coordinating media for special events
* Designing, developing and distributing media kits.
* Telephone follow-up (coordinating media, volunteer meetings, etc.)
* Identifying and creating prospect lists.
* Writing, designing and layout for division newsletters.
* Create and maintain donor databases and merge with letters
* Willingness to handle other projects, as needed.

Requirements:

Responsibilities:
This position will report to the Event Services Coordinator and Event Services Manager.

Perform tasks and duties organized and assigned by the Special Events team...including but not limited to event preparation, coordinating with vendors, site alterations, event set-up/teardown, event management, and any other duties that fall within the special events department’s realm.

 

  • Assist in vendor issues that arise during event time.

  • Attend event pre/post planning meetings.

  • Create event recaps in order to provide us with your point of view of the event.

  • Brainstorm new ideas in an effort to help grow our events

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree or working towards Degree.

  • Be a team player and committed to the success of the event.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office a must, AutoCAD a plus.

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays during semester long internship.

This internship is a non-paid internship, but college credit is offered for hours completed. Spring interns are to start around the 1st-2nd week of January and run until the first week of April (12-16 weeks).

Daytona International Speedway logo Marketing Partnership Internship (Spring 2008, non-paid)

Job Summary:
Works closely with the Marketing Partnership Account Team to learn about track entitlement sponsors, display partners, and fulfillment of marketing partner needs. This person will also be hands-on during event time, assisting with all sponsors activities from escorting VIPS to assisting with display load-in. At the start of the internship, this person will learn the sponsors needs and expectations from the Account Team to assist with contract fulfillment and overall satisfaction regarding their marketing relationship with Daytona International Speedway. The intern chosen is also responsible for successfully and positively representing DIS at all times and performing job in compliance with the philosophy, policies, and goals of DIS.

Tools and equipment needed:
Telecommunications equipment, E-mail, Fax, Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Attendance requirements:
Hours will vary but will include evenings, weekends, holidays, and long days on event days and nights.

Work Environment:
Office is a part of a racetrack and staff must be available to meet with visitors or take calls.

Safety Requirements:
Must comply with all departmental, facility and OSHA safety guidelines and regulations

Physical Responsibilities:
Sit and use a personal computer for long periods, ability to move up to 35 pounds. Physically access all areas of the racetrack quickly and safely. Bending, lifting, and the ability to load and unload premium items.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop awareness of relationships with current Event Entitlement partners and Display partners and work diligently with the Account manager to insure fulfillment of all contractual benefits so that clients are very satisfied with their relationship.

  • Brainstorm and help coordinate partner promotional activities around Daytona International Speedway, Daytona 500 Experience and its Special Events.

  • Work closely with other DIS Marketing Partnership team to insure event planning is effective and successful.

  • Prospect for new partners for Daytona International Speedway, Daytona 500 Experience, display partners, and Bike Week.

  • Serve as liaison to Account Executive to assist with display partners and ensure satisfaction by providing excellent customer service, including the following:

    • Assist with coordination of logistics with Event Services Manager

    • Assist with creating and distributing display informational packet, including the preferred vendor list and race schedule to clients

    • Assist with coordination of footprint locations with Event Services Manager

    • Confirm COI and payment prior to arrival

    • Coordinate/distribute necessary worker passes and credential requests

    • Assist with coordination of mandatory client meeting

    • Communicate clients’ needs for equipment rental to Event Services Manager

    • Maintain visible presence during event to troubleshoot (rep from another track and PM person will share this responsibility)

    • Brainstorm permanent, interactive displays and partner branding opportunities within the new FANZONE

Meetings:

  • Attend weekly MP and Business Development staff meeting.

  • Attend weekly MP Department meeting.

  • Attend all pre-event planning update meetings that include partnership related issues.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

Professional: College students enrolled in a Sports Marketing or Marketing Major preferred, but all applicants will be looked at.

Personal:

Project a positive image to internal (employees) and external (fans, vendor, other sports professional, community members) customers, communicate effectively and professionally at all times, comfort and experience with public speaking, strong leadership skills, exercise excellent managerial judgment, visionary thinker , ability to perform multiple tasks at one time, clean and neat at all times, team builder and team worker.

Internships may be renewed and/or extended based upon performance along with possible stipend if extended. Working environment is business casual in a home office in Deltona, FL.
